What is recorded

The app and the website work the same way. Both send this to PostHog, which is where I look at it.

• What you read and how you study it: the articles you open, the articles you save or remove from Saved, when you open your Saved list, how you filter articles, the vocabulary and grammar you look at, the translations you reveal, the practice questions you are shown, your answers and whether they were right, and the audio you play, including its speed and repeat settings.
• A random ID that ties your visits together as one device. If you sign in, your account ID is used instead, so the website and the app count as one person; it's still never your name or email. Your rough region, device, and app version come with it.
• When something breaks, a report of what failed and where. It never includes article text or anything you typed.
• If you sign in: when a sign-in starts, finishes, or fails and with which provider, when you sign out or delete your account, and whether a sync of your saved articles succeeded or failed. Never your email or name.
• Those are the only things recorded. There's no general click tracking, and nothing you type is recorded. The website also times how fast pages load.

None of it is sold, and none of it goes to advertising.

What stays on your device

• In the app: your bookmarks, what you've read, downloaded articles, and your settings. Delete the app and all of it goes too.
• On the website, your bookmarks and settings live in the browser. For offline reading, articles you open, Latest and Saved pages you visit, the files needed to display them, and offline fallback pages may also stay in the browser cache. Clear your browser data to remove them. Changing your theme, study track, or language sends an event as well. The furigana and vocabulary underline toggles don't.

Who else is involved

• PostHog gets the usage and error reports above.
• Cloudflare hosts the website and the article files. Like any web server, it keeps access logs: your IP address, the time, and which file you asked for.
• If you sign in, Google or Apple handles the sign-in and tells us your email address and name, and Google adds your profile picture. While you're signed in, your browser loads that picture from Google, without telling Google which page you're on. Your account and your saved-article list live on a Cloudflare Worker at api.yoridesu.com, which keeps the same kind of access logs.

Children

Yori News isn't aimed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect from them. Signing in is optional and only through Google or Apple, and there's nowhere to enter a name, an age, or an email.

Your choices

• Delete the app. That clears everything it stored and stops it sending anything.
• Clear your browser data to wipe what the website saved.
• If you signed in, delete your account under “Your account” below. That removes your account and saved-article list from our server; what's saved on your device stays.
• Block the analytics with any content blocker. The site works fine without it.
• Email me and ask. I'll answer.

Changes

If this policy changes, so does the date at the top. Anything important gets announced in the app too.
