Elon Musk has donated at least $276 million to Republican groups since July, making him the party’s top known donor and the biggest contributor to the upcoming midterm elections, according to a report by The New York Times. The massive injection of cash is funding campaign operations as Republicans seek to defend their seats and retain control of Congress in November.
The bulk of the money—$158 million—was directed to the Senate Leadership Fund, the primary super PAC working to secure and maintain a Republican majority in the Senate. The contribution stands as one of the largest individual political donations in American history. Among its key battles, the fund is fighting to protect the party’s Senate seat in Texas, which serves as a major operational hub for Musk's business empire.
Musk also contributed more than $76 million to America PAC, a political organization he established in 2024 to knock on doors and canvass hard-to-reach Republican voters. Other conservative groups received smaller sums, including $20 million for the Congressional Leadership Fund supporting House Republicans, $10 million for the Lone Star Liberty PAC backing Ken Paxton’s Senate bid in Texas, $10 million for the Republican Governors Association, and $2 million for the Republican Attorneys General Association.
Overall, Musk has contributed roughly $366 million to federal political committees during the 2025–2026 election cycle. That total already exceeds the $290 million he spent in 2024 to support Donald Trump's return to the White House. The spending surge comes despite Musk's statement in May of last year that he planned to do "a lot less" political spending in the future—a pledge his recent financial filings show he has set aside.
