The Milwaukee Brewers are close to a big baseball dream. On Monday, they beat the champion Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4. The Brewers now lead the series 2-0. They need only two more wins to reach the World Series for the first time since 1982.
The game was tied 4-4 in the sixth inning. Then, William Contreras hit the ball to left field. His hit brought David Hamilton home to score the lead run. Earlier in the game, Contreras also hit a long home run to tie the score.
Milwaukee’s pitchers stopped the Dodgers for the rest of the game. Four relief pitchers—players who enter after the starting pitcher—did not let a single Dodgers batter reach base in the final five innings. Together, they got 15 batters out in a row.
The Dodgers won the World Series in each of the past two years, but their hitters struggled on Monday and got only three hits. The series now moves to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Wednesday.
