Australian runner Izzi Batt-Doyle has broken her country's national marathon record by more than 45 seconds at the Chicago Marathon. The 31-year-old athlete finished in sixth place with an official time of two hours, 20 minutes, and 38 seconds. The performance cut more than two minutes off her own personal best time.
Batt-Doyle broke the previous Australian record of 2:21:24, which was set by Jess Stenson in 2025. During the race, Batt-Doyle ran alongside her fiancé, Riley Cocks. The two followed a careful pacing plan together before Cocks finished just seconds behind her. As she approached the finish line, Batt-Doyle celebrated and raised her arms in joy.
After the race, Batt-Doyle shared that she felt very happy and relieved because breaking the record had been on her mind for the past two years. The two-time Olympian already held Australian national records in the half-marathon and the 10,000 meters. Her record-breaking performance in Chicago gives her strong momentum as she prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
