British banknotes, or paper money, will soon have a new look. Four wild animals will appear on future cash notes in the UK.
People in the UK voted for their favorite native animals. The European hedgehog, the barn owl, and the buff-tailed bumblebee won the public vote. A sea bird named the Atlantic puffin was also chosen to celebrate Britain's coast.
These four animals will replace famous historical figures on the back of the banknotes. For example, former Prime Minister Winston Churchill will no longer be on the five-pound note. The bank changes money designs regularly to prevent fake notes.
Each animal will appear on a different banknote. The process will take a few years because new security features must be tested before printing.
