Patrick McCabe, a 16-year-old student with cerebral palsy from Cheshire, England, has successfully passed seven GCSE high school exams. He completed the tests by using eye-tracking technology, which allowed him to control a screen and type words using only his eye movements.

allowed him to control= 使用「allow + 人 + to + 動詞」結構,表示「允許/使得某人能夠做某事」

Using the specialized communication device required intense physical and mental effort. Because typing with his eyes takes much longer than writing by hand, Patrick's exam period took four months to complete instead of a few weeks. For example, answering a single long question could take up to six hours. Supported by his family, his school, and an educational charity called CandLE, Patrick worked every morning from February to June to complete his tests.

instead of= 意為「而不是……」或「代替……」,用於引出替代的選項或情況

After passing all seven subjects, Patrick has now started his advanced A-level studies in French, business, and media studies at Fallibroome Academy. Looking ahead, he hopes to go to university to study media and work in the media industry.

Looking ahead= 分詞短語,用作過渡詞,意為「展望未來 / 前瞻」,用於引出未來的計畫或展望

While Patrick's success shows how assistive technology can help disabled students learn, his story also highlights the challenges in current exam systems. Patrick and his school leaders hope that education authorities will create fairer assessment methods in the future so that students using eye-tracking devices face fewer barriers.

so that= 連詞,意為「以便 / 使得」,用於說明行動的目的或預期結果
