Nighttime celebrations filled the air in Iraq as people marked the start of a four-day national holiday known as Sovereignty Day. The holiday celebrates the complete withdrawal of United States military troops and international forces from the country.
International forces spent more than a decade in Iraq fighting the militant group ISIL. With the military mission now finished, foreign troops have fully departed.
The end of the military mission allows Iraqis to observe their four-day holiday and mark a new period for the country without international military forces present.
