Jaan Roose is a 34-year-old athlete from Estonia. On Thursday, he plans to walk across a thin line suspended high above Seoul, South Korea. The line is 120 meters above the ground and stretches 160 meters between two tall buildings.
Roose practices slacklining. In this sport, an athlete walks on a narrow, flexible ribbon stretched between two points. Roose has completed many famous walks around the world. For example, in 2024, he walked 3.6 kilometers on a line over the sea between mainland Italy and Sicily.
A trip to South Korea in 2022 inspired his new walk. During that visit, he learned about jultagi, which is traditional Korean tightrope walking. That experience gave him the idea to perform in Seoul.
Roose plans to walk across the line two times on Thursday if the weather is good. Strong winds can make the walk dangerous. Organizers will postpone the event if average wind speeds reach 10 meters per second.
