A very strong storm called Typhoon Dujuan has hit Japan. A typhoon is a large ocean storm that brings powerful winds and heavy rain. The storm flooded roads, triggered dangerous landslides, and caused serious damage near Tokyo.
The bad weather created major travel problems across the country. Airlines cancelled hundreds of flights, and train companies stopped bullet train services. More than 50,000 households lost power, and local authorities advised over 1.6 million people to evacuate their homes.
Officials reported that two people died and four others were missing after the storm. The severe weather also forced organizers to cancel major outdoor events and conventions.
Warm ocean temperatures made the storm stronger as it traveled near Japan. Weather experts warned that heavy rain could continue as the storm moves further north along the coast.
