After Ukrainian drone strikes took Russian data centers offline, charts quickly circulated across social media claiming that Russian online bot activity had plummeted. Many commentators celebrated the sudden drop, assuming the attacks had disrupted notorious troll farms that spread political disinformation and conspiracy theories. However, independent researchers and network analysts warn that the viral graphs show something far more routine.

far more routine= 劇的な主張に比べてはるかにありふれた、日常的なこと

The most popular chart cited network data from Cloudflare showing a sharp drop in traffic from Yandex, often described as "Russia's Google." Watchdog group antibot4navalny, which tracks Russian online manipulation, clarified that the data reflects automated web crawlers rather than social media accounts. While such crawlers can sometimes be abused by bad actors for spam or reconnaissance, their main purpose is indexing websites for search results and powering customer service tools. Cloudflare also confirmed that broader bot activity originating from Russia remained largely unchanged.

remained largely unchanged= 大きな変化がなく、ほぼ元の状態のままであったこと

Other claims about collapsing disinformation networks proved even less reliable. European Parliament member Tomáš Zdechovský shared a graphic asserting that online posts supporting Germany’s far-right AfD party plunged following the strikes. Computer scientist Raphael Wimmer raised red flags about the image, noting it was likely generated by artificial intelligence because its timeline included a future date—October 15th—and lacked any verified source.

raised red flags= 警戒すべき兆候や疑わしい点に注意を向けたこと

While political troll networks appear to be functioning normally, the physical strikes caused substantial disruption for ordinary internet users. Yandex Pay and several other consumer platforms went down, leaving people unable to transfer money, check account balances, or complete basic purchases. Yandex Fintech head Dima Pirogov stated that teams are working continuously to restore services, though the company could not yet provide a clear timeline for full recovery.

went down= システムやサービスが停止・ダウンしたこと
