Two strong earthquakes hit southern Panama on Friday, causing damage to buildings and cutting power to many residents. The powerful quakes shook the country's Herrera province and were followed by dozens of aftershocks.
The first earthquake measured magnitude 7.5, while the second registered at magnitude 6.6. Together with the aftershocks, the quakes destroyed buildings and disrupted local power supplies across the affected areas.
In response to the widespread destruction, Panama's president declared a major disaster. Emergency teams are now working to restore power and assist people affected by the disaster.
