A wine region in Slovenia has been named the best wine region in Europe, beating famous wine areas in France and Italy. The region, called Štajerska, took the top spot in a new ranking created by European Best Destinations. It finished ahead of more than 90 other wine territories across the continent.
Judges looked at several factors to choose the winner. They evaluated the variety of grapes and wine styles, the number of cellars and tasting rooms, and the beauty of the landscape. They also checked how accessible and sustainable each area is for visitors. Štajerska stood out because of its rich history, beautiful views, and strong local culture. The region is home to historic wine cellars in Ptuj and the world's oldest living vine in Maribor.
Travel experts say more visitors in Europe are looking for authentic places with deep tradition and natural beauty. Štajerska covers several areas, including Maribor, Ptuj, and Jeruzalem Slovenija. Other famous regions also placed near the top of the list, with Langhe-Roero-Monferrato in Italy taking second place and Ribeira Sacra in Spain finishing third.
