People flying in Europe may soon carry more bags on planes without paying extra money. European leaders agreed on new rules for airline baggage rights.
Under the planned rules, a standard ticket will include two free pieces of hand luggage. Passengers can bring one small personal item that fits under the seat in front of them. They can also bring one larger cabin bag weighing up to 7 kilograms.
These changes are not active yet. The rules still need to finish the final law-making steps. They are expected to start in late 2027 at the earliest.
Passengers flying out of the United Kingdom will not get free hand luggage under these rules because the UK is no longer in the EU. However, the rule will cover return flights from EU countries back to the UK.
