Olivia Miles, a star rookie guard for the Minnesota Lynx, has set a new rookie scoring record in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She broke the previous record held by Caitlin Clark on Sunday during her team's 101-89 victory over the Connecticut Sun.
Miles entered the game tied with Clark at 769 points. After a scoreless first quarter, she broke the record just 29 seconds into the second quarter by scoring a free throw. Miles finished the match with 21 points, making 7 of her 10 field goal attempts and all six of her free throws. Both Miles and Clark reached their total point marks in 40 games.
After the game, Miles thanked her team for supporting her success. She emphasized that achieving the record was possible because of her supportive teammates and a head coach who believed in her abilities. Miles has had an outstanding first season, averaging 19.7 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game, which has helped propel the Minnesota Lynx to the best record in the league.
This milestone is one of several rookie records Miles has achieved this season. In June, she set a league rookie record by hitting eight three-point shots in a single game against Golden State. She also became the fastest rookie in league history to record 350 points, 100 rebounds, and 100 assists, reaching those numbers in just 21 games.
